Mission Cycling

Let’s Ride

Snack attack.

We’re so glad you’re interested in joining Mission Cycling!  Really. We are. You seem like a very nice person.

However, bad news, our membership is now closed for the season. What does that mean? Well, mostly it means you can’t join. Don’t be sad about it. You’ll be able to join next year. In the meantime, you still can come join our rides, share stories and come to the parties. We’re so very excited to meet you!

Why is membership closed? It’s closed because we want to be able to offer you something for your yearly dues and the season is more than half way over. Plus, we’re nearly out of official Mission Cycling gear. (to see what’s left check the shop).

Membership Benefits

Beyond a great excuse to eat more pizza and hang out at the 500 Club, here are some of the great things that come with being a Mission Cycling member.  Survey says:

  • Access to a great community of active, knowledgeable and tanned cyclists
  • A group to motivate you outta bed, on the bike and won’t judge your bedhead
  • Special club events like organized cycling trips, happy hours, post-ride meals and parties
  • Club participation in larger organized cycling events
  • Push yourself and become a better rider
  • Incredible discounts from our sponsors
  • Discounts on our unique Mission Cycling Gear
  • People to race with if that’s you’re cup of tea

Simple Membership Requirements

We started this club specifically so that we wouldn’t have a ton of rules but there a few things that we ask of Mission Cycling members:

  • $40 yearly dues
  • Purchase of a club jersey (for the way discounted price of $60!)
  • Please wear a helmet on our rides.  We love helmet hair.
  • Wear your Mission Cycling gear when riding.  Or not.  Whatever.  Be that way.
  • Schedule a ride once in a while.
  • Don’t be a jerk on the bike.
  • Visit our sponsors and let ‘em know you’re in the club

You’re almost there.  Just click the button to pay for your jersey and club dues ($40 + $60 = $100). Then, download and fill out our waiver and bring it to your first ride. Do it!

AGAIN – SORRY FOLKS, MEMBERSHIP IS CLOSED FOR 2009.

Not sure? Here’s Some Frequently Asked Membership Questions:

Why are you here?  Probably because you couldn’t follow the directions.  Don’t feel bad, happens to me all the time (not really).  We get many emails per day asking us all sorts of questions about the club, so if you read the other sections on this website and still have questions, this should help.  If not, and you still feel like Martin Short in Innerspace (the one where he is shrunken and travels through Dennis’s Quaid’s body to save him – yes, all kinds of layers!) then I feel sorry for you.

Q: How fast are the rides?  I’m worried I won’t be able to keep up.

A: We have riders of all levels.  By the time we get past Sausalito, you’ll have found people of similar level to ride with.  Just come out and pedal.  You’ll be fine.  It will all be ok.  Breathe.

Q: Should I ask her to ‘go steady’

A: Yes.  Just do it already.  You’ve been sitting up nights thinking about it.

Q: Can I just show up for a ride and try it out?

A: Of course.  Come out for one of our many rides.  You’ll quickly find at least one person at your level and quickly become bff.  You’ll probably have the best time of your life and call your parents and tell them about it.  JIC you didn’t see it, here is the Rides and Events page

Q: Mr. Hooper on Sesame Street seemed a little creepy.  Do you agree?

A: Dude, do you think this is funny?  Next Question.

Q: I don’t live in the Mission.  Can I still join?

A: Yes.  We have members from all over the city and greater Bay Area.

Q: How long are the rides?

A: That’s what she said.  Kinda had to be said.  Anyway, the rides vary in length.  We usually have the rides posted on the Rides and Events page. If you’re not into doing the whole ride, there are usually other people who feel the same.  Just speak up and ask around.

Q:  Do I have to wear a helmet?

A: Yes, please.

Q:  How do I get a discount from the sponsors?

A:  Join the club. Certain sponsors give a great discount when you’re wearing the 2009 jersey.  No jersey.  No discount.

Q:  Terence Trent D’Arby?

A:  Sure.
