Flour + Water

May 18th, 2009 |

Saturday, after our long and hot ride to Stinson Beach, we had to kick the tires on the only wood-burning pizza oven in the Mission.  Mission Cycling member David Steele (and his partner David White – both named David, how cute) just opened Flour + Water at 20th and Harrison.  We had high expectations after many weeks hearing David describe his vision for the restaurant on our club rides.

We were hungry, tired and sunkissed from the long day in saddle (and a bit buzzed from the bottle of white we downed before the walk over).  We were ready to eat!  We sat down next to Sean Quigley, owner of Paxton Gate, Mission Cycling sponsor and designer of Flour + Water (pretty cool).  He had a living, human baby on his lap instead of a stuffed marmot.

Sean did a great job on the design giving the restaurant a comfortable, modern farm house- y look.  The service was great and the staff smiling and helpful. We ordered 3 pizzas, 2 bottles of rose, 1 salumi platter, 1 chicken dish and 1 pasta (there were 4 of us).

Now, I’m VERY good with words and got an “A” in all of my writing classess, so here is my description:  AWESOME!  Seriously, the food was amazing. Some of the best pizza I’ve had in San Francisco and the chicken is a must-have.  We cleared our plates and became members of the clean plate club.  Moms would be happy.  Congratulations to our friends over at Flour + Water!
