Mission Cycling In Thailand (Big Deal)

Peter O spent a month in a hammock and one of the places he was very lazy was Koh Yao Noi. Looks kind of fake, don’t you think?

While walking to get my coffee this morning, I saw my 4 year old neighbor and her mom walking to their car. The little girl turned to me and said, “did you say hi and welcome the ghost?” “No but I will,” I replied. “Her name is Penelope,” she responded. Of course it’s Penelope.
Why do I bring this up? Well, when I got home I turned on all the lights and opened all the closet doors. I’m afraid of ghosts. It’s also the reason my bed is on the floor – so “they” can’t hide under the bed – What Do You Go Home To. I also bring this up, cause Welcome, Ghosts is the name of a track on All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone by the post-rock band, Explosions in the Sky. It’s been a while since I’ve been on a long bike ride but this album is great instrumental one for spacing out on those long climbs like white’s hill – Catastrophe and the Cure. So, throw on the album and imagine yourself settling in to one of those painful climbs – It’s Natural to Be Afraid. Now I need to practice my jedi moves, so I’ll be ready if/when Penelope comes a knocking.
Side note. According to Wikipedia, “The album title, All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone, is a summarization to the conclusion of The Catcher in the Rye, in which the main character Holden advises the reader, “Don’t ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody.” The song titles of the album make allusions to the many themes in the novel, having to do with the normality of fear, lack of social stability or place in society, emotional discord, and loneliness.” Wow. The “feelings journal” is going to get a workout today.

Early Bird Crit #5 Report: UPDATED
February 1st, 2010 | 1 Comment »
[thanks to Joshua T for the report. Photos by Erika Kali- more here]
Today was the last of the Early Bird Criteriums, and the only one where they actually take placings. They split the field into two groups based on race number, but somehow Mission lucked out and 4 of us were in the second group. Alex, Michael, Eugene, and I were all together.

We seemed to work well together actually even if none of us knew what we were doing. Once again I spent way too much time on the front. So did Michael, but I’m beginning to think he is superhuman.

After spending too much time driving the pace, I was pretty cooked towards the end. Eugene did really well. He always seemed to be in the right spot at the right time, and got 2nd, or 3rd. Michael got 4th, I got 10th I think, and Alex was in 17th.

Everyone on Mission was riding really strong, and our PRO mentors, came up to me afterwards, and said Mission was doing really well in keeping the pace fast, and working together to keep good positions. That was pretty flattering, although I think any tactics we employed were more by accident.
Chasing Legends

Chasing Legends is a behind the scenes independent film about the Tour de France. Apparently it’s a low budget film that takes the viewer closer than they have ever been. I scored an 1140 on my SATs but I don’t go around bragging about it. The film releases May 15th. Have a decent Monday.
